Taxicab Regulation Program of Marin

The Taxi Regulation Program (TRP) coordinates local enforcement of taxicab regulations established by the State of California in Government Code Section 53075.5.  Having a single, consistent source of standards, requirements and permitting contributes to a safer taxi travel experience for residents and visitors.

  • Safe Drivers

All TRP-permitted taxicab drivers undergo a criminal background check and are enrolled in a monitoring program.  Each driver is drug and alcohol screened prior to receiving or renewing a permit.

  • Safe Vehicles

All TRP-permitted taxis are inspected by a Bureau of Auto Repair-certified garage and certified annually.  Taxi meters are annually tested by County of Marin Weights and Measures section for accuracy.

  • Safe Companies

All TRP-permitted taxi companies are subject to regulations and service standards to promote professional, fair and non-discriminatory customer service.  They provide commercial liability insurance to cover passengers in the event of an accident.
